The Wellington Centre for Book Arts

Spotted in a recent Air NZ Kia Ora Magazine, our very own Wellington Centre of Book Arts which in case you didn’t know is located in the basement of the Woolstore Design Centre.

Tucked away in the corner of The Woolstores internal carpark is the WCBA, an arm of The Printing Museum - the only working type-foundry in the southern hemisphere.

Inside the 80sqm basement studio you will find a collection of printing presses, materials and tools. Some saved from the tip, others donated from the likes of the Parliamentary Library’s former bindery department. Everything is restored and works.

The Wellington Centre for Book Arts is open on Wednesday evenings 6pm-9pm and Sunday afternoons 1pm-5pm. Feel free to pop in and have a look around or sort some type!
